Bikini 101: The Brazilian Cut
The technical style name for a Brazilian Cut bikini bottom is tanga. Generalists as well as the uninformed will describe this style as fio dental ('dental floss') bikini, indicating G-string or thong cuts, but they are 100% wrong. Do not believe the hype.
In reality, the Brazilian Cut tanga bikini bottom has a more generous cut than a G-string or thong. It sits across the cheek of your behind, exposing about half of it. Most American swimwear is designed to sit under the cheek. The thong style (cutting straight up the middle and across the top) is not, by definition, a Brazilian Cut, though the thong style suit can be seen on beaches of Brazil, as well as in the US, Europe or Asia.
The Brazilian Cut has a reputation for being super tiny and revealing, but put one on and you will realize that this style looks better on most figures than American or European styles. The bottoms make your legs look longer and the tops make your chest look fuller. For those of us with some junk in the trunk, there's not a big difference between styles because no swimsuit exists that covers all that anyway.
