Day 1/Indie Travel Art Project: A Changing World View
Today BootsnAll launched 30 Days of Indie Travel Art Project - #indie30 is the hashtag. You can learn more about what it’s all about here, if you like. Today’s topic for creation is “How has your view of the world changed because of #travel?”
I started my international travels over spring break when I was 15. We were to fly to Mexico CIty, spend several days there, take a bus to Taxco, spend several days there, take a side trip to Cuernavaca by bus, then take another bus to Acapulco and stay a few days there. Before I left on that trip, I was passionate about a few things:
When I returned, I didn’t care about trying to be popular, getting through JV squad tryouts or getting asked to homecoming or prom. My view of the world began to expand on that trip, and I started to care about bigger issues.
This is a simple story I’m telling - not profound and probably not different from the way many - maybe even most - lifelong travelers feel. When you leave your comfort zone, stuff gets real. The change in me by virtue of a single trip away from my comfort zone was immediate. And I was hooked for life.
